I got lost, got caught, and fell in love. What a day!
If you follow my Instagram at all, you've probably noticed two things: I was stopped by administrators climbing roofs, and that I run on Persian time. The latter because I took a quick sneak peek snap of a few details from this outfit, mentioning that it would be up Friday, and only just got around to publishing these photos today! (My apologies but I hope you learned your lesson about trusting my time calculations hahah c;)
Depending on how long you've been reading, you may have noticed this spot as one of my favorites roofs to shoot on (example A and example B) because it is so isolated--the building itself is usually always vacant, quiet, and has a beautiful view (read: perfect)! This particular day, though, to my dismay, my usual route to the roof was locked...as were all of the other buildings on campus. (Yes, I still refuse to shoot with a tripod on the ground/not a roof). After finding one unlocked building on the other side of campus, I somehow climbed, tunneled , got lost, and staired (can this be a verb?) for a good hour until I somehow made it to my roof!
And of course, the second I finished setting up my tripod, I decided to stupidly look over the ledge and make eye contact with a professor who, after taking a double take, without hesitation unlocked the door the building and ran up to where I was (in the meantime while waiting for his hurried footsteps to reach mine, I took this Insta photo!) (Oh and relevant tidbit: UChicago is not a fan of roof-goers).. Long story short, I managed to talk my way out of it, but let's just say that I might be taking a short hiatus from this roof--on to explore new ones!
Oh! Right, and I fell in love with a little garden I accidentally stumbled upon whilst looking for an unlocked building (sorry to get your hopes up hehe)!
This beautiful grid blouse was gifted to me by Persunmall, and it fits so perfectly! It is so light (and transparent!) and also has a nice little collar which I accidentally managed to cover up in all the photos (whoops!) but you can see it here! My roommate loves it so much she has already claimed it as her own!
Also this is my stab at this thing called "minimalism" that I always so miserably fail at~

Hahaha that roof story is absolutely great. You're quite the adventurous lady! I have to say, your venturing pays off though, the scenery to your shots are lovely. I'm abroad at the moment so I'm having trouble with time difference too - I try and upload UK time but it's not always that easy. And don't even start with the 'scheduled posts' thing; I know nothing about technology.

This is absolutely one of your best outfits! xx :)
ReplyDeletegreat outfit and great story! x

Hh i was wait for this you know why ! anyway i really love this outfit and like to see more like it <3 , lovely boots and top , carry on
ReplyDeleteHaha oh thank you--I'm so glad you think it's worth it! c; I guess I use this spot less for the "view" from the roof that of the walls of the roof itself! I'll find a way to make a bit more scenic shoots, next time! c:
ReplyDeleteOoh where are you abroad, if I may ask? I'm about to leave the USA soon, as well, so things will only get worse, haha! Oh and scheduling posts is actually a life-saver! I usually wake up late but my posts do best when posted in the early morning so I would be a mess without scheduled posting! I encourage you to play around with it! c;
Thanks for dropping by! x
You think so!? Haha oh then maybe I should look more into this minimalist thing! c; (It will be a fun challenge since my wardrobe is basically all curated for layering and pattern mixing ahah)
ReplyDeletehhhhh now you know why it took me so long to come back! :P shukran!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kate! c: Haha I feel like I am the worst at story-telling, so I'm glad you liked it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool locations! I love these photos, and your outfit is just perfect. Haha, oops! No looking over the edge the next time you go roof adventuring!

ReplyDeleteThank you so very much Lauren! c; Hahah oh man yeah I definitely learned my lesson! x
ReplyDeleteHaha oh my, I know--and I feel I'm particularly sensitive to people I know finding out about my blog! I don't know why!
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah I've actually been rather hesitant in the past when buying grid shirts because I never think I'd be able to wear it often enough to be worth it (not to mention the friends I'd always go shopping with said I would look like a picnic blanket ahaha) but since I had this sponsorship opportunity I decided to say hell with it and grab it! xx (pretty glad I did!)
Such a lovely black and white outfit! At least you didn't get into trouble for being up on the roof! :) And now you have an excuse to explore new places and see if you can find other photo locations - maybe ones that are easier to get to, haha! :)
ReplyDeleteAway From Blue
Thank you! Oh but I guess the photos were a bit deceitful--the blouse is actually navy! c; Haha maybe I should stop messing with the colors in post-production editing c; And yes, for sure! Although this was by far the easiest roof to access, an adventure is an adventure! xx
ReplyDeleteloving this monochromatic ensemble going on here.. so chic!

I love the story about the roof! Good for you for managing to talk your way out of it. Your outfit looks stunning, and the backdrop does too. I hope you find other equally amazing places to shoot!

This location is so gorgeous. I'm kind of sad that you're going to take a break from it haha. I guess I'll just have to peruse your older posts to get my fix. I love your top in this outfit. It looks like quite a light material though I could be mistaken. Either way you styled it well!

Thanks for following me so i could find your blog, otherwise I don't think I would have. I must say, I love your writing, pictures and style.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know the escapades of rooftops, at my previous uni I used to climb put of the windows of empty lecture rooms to get there. They're the best ! Haha
Salaams :)

Ah wow, I love this black and white outfit - I actually am waiting for a quite similar t-shirt as you got! And haha, the story of your roof-climbing-and-taking-pictures is way too funny! Thank god you could talk yourself out of it! :) www.neverdreamedaboutthis.com

ReplyDeleteThanks Helen! Haha I think I was just lucky in that the guy didn't push anything! And yes, haha I hope this will be a good excuse for me to venture and find even more beautiful locations! Thanks for dropping by! Hope to see you again! c:
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm so glad you like it! c: Ah yes I've only shot here twice before, but hopefully this will give me the chance to discover more rooftops on campus!
ReplyDeleteYes, the top is super light (and transparent!)! Since I chose to cover my body I wore a long sleeve shirt under it and it was still light enough in that I could wear it in the heat and be fine! c; xx
Oh my, thank you so very much! I'm so glad you like the site! c:
ReplyDeleteAnd haha really!? I know to get to the roof of one of my buildings you have to climb out from the window in the men's bathroom but I have yet to accumulate the guts to be able to go (if you get caught you'll get kicked out of housing!) Did you ever get caught!? :D
Thank you! c: I'm glad you like it! Hope to see you again! xx
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I did once, when I went onto the roof of the environment science building. Tallest buildimg on campus, you can see it all the way from a different area. But it was okay, we just got a small warning. Haha
ReplyDeletethat top is my laiifeeee :P

You climbed up the tallest building on your campus!? Oh my! I think the tallest on our campus is probably Rockefeller Chapel, which has its own scheduled tours to the top which is no fun :p So lucky of you to have just gotten a small warning! That must have been terrifying to have been caught, regardless! hahaha
ReplyDeleteLol it was! And the funniest thing was my friend had tagged along and fell asleep so her entire face except eye area because of sunglasses got tanned. I'm from South Africa juust by the way :) I think you're gonna need an invisibilty cloak for future escapades haha
ReplyDeletehahahah oh my gosh the sunglasses tan is the worst! Your poor friend haha hope that didn't last tooo long! c; South Africa?! Ahh too cool! Have you lived there your whole life?
ReplyDeletehaha IF ONLY I would totally make full use of an invisibility cloak ahaha c;
This outfit is such a great look, the bold contrasts is simple yet charming! I like the background as well for this minimal look, it also suits your styling choices well. Also, thanks very much for your lovely comment.
