I really love the psychology of social networks. Is that weird?
Behold, the guide to the absolute best time to post on social media and blogs--the product of personal experience, brands and apps, social media and blogger experts, and in some cases, even the social media channel themselves.

But of course, it is important to note that not every reader is the same, and these should be tailored to your readers. Test a few of them out and note and compare engagement levels to find a time and day that is just right!
A few tools to help | so maybe not all of us want to stay up until 4am to increase the engagement of a single pin, yeah, I guess that's valid. Tools like Buffer or HootSuite can help you schedule social media posts to publish when inconvenient for you (or to give you more time to do other things, like buy and eat ice cream).
P.S. This post was promised for Sunday, so my apologies of its delay--I was having a bit of technical issues with the internetz and so I watched Big Hero 6 with my roommates last night and cried myself to sleep. Hope that's a valid excuse. teehee!

(This is one of those things to pin and come back to/print off and tape above your blogging workplace/bookmark)

- Most people tend to read blogs in the morning with the start of their day
- More men than women read blogs in the evening
- On average, the most pageviews come in at 11am
- Highest traffic comes in on Mondays and Thursdays
FACEBOOK |
- 1:00-5:00pm on weekdays (lunchtime!)
- Highest engagement on Wednesdays (it's the middle of the week--ain't nobody want to do work)
- Engagement is lowest on the weekends, and everyday before 8am
TWITTER |
- Best times to post: 12pm, 5pm, 6pm on weekdays
- Weekends have about 17% higher engagement for clothing brands
PINTREST |
- Saturdays are the best time to pin, optimally at 8pm-11pm & 2am-4am (lol)
- Highest engagement for fashion & brands: 3pm Friday
- During the week, try to pin from about 1-4pm EST

very useful, thank you! I thought Wednesdays were better than Thursdays, but I'm going to try posting on thurs to see if there's any difference :b xo
ReplyDeleteYes I actually read in a few sites as well that Wednesdays were really great days to post, but I think overwhelmingly most sites would disagree and argue for Thursday!
ReplyDeleteBut yes, please do let us know how it goes! ;) Looking forward to your little experiment!
This is soo useful for blogging! What about instagram!? I've always wondered if I should post at lunch time or at dinner time to get the most likes!! :D

I love this... I am going to print this off... and try a couple of these hints. I love social media and I use it a lot but maybe I need to start thinking about the times :-) ♡
ReplyDeleteOh, right...instagram! I haven't done enough research to be able to confidently say, but here is an article that seems really helpful! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/25/get-instagram-likes_n_6751614.html
ReplyDeleteHaha don't you just love when you realize you've been doing it right all along? ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on your readers, yes, for sure! I think these are all in Eastern time but I specifically didn't mention that because people's habits are fairly similar around the world when it comes to social media--they check twitter on their way to work, read blogs in the morning, etc. So I think that just look where you largest following is and post based on their schedule (unless it's far too inconvenient for your other readers) and that might work best!
ReplyDeleteI know, it's crazy, right? Thanks for dropping by, Courtney! xx
ReplyDeletehahaha yes most people don't! And it's really so important (and interesting!) in order to engage as much as possible with the majority of your readers!
ReplyDeletehahaha well it's good to learn the patterns of your readers then, to see when works for them! But let's be real--crazy readers are the best ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing the results from the pintrest theory!
I think I almost went through a box of tissues with my roommates. omg.
ReplyDelete;) glad I could save you some work, Linda!
ReplyDeletehahah I'm glad you approve! ;)
ReplyDeleteyeah so interesting, right?!
Welcome back, Emery! xx Hope you're doing well :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I actually post every other day so sometimes it falls on a Monday and sometimes on a Sunday so these are less strict guidelines than important things to know. :)
Haha happy that you feel the same way! Just doing the research was so interesting for me! Also good to hear that the Monday/Thursday posting is tried and true!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you find it all helpful! I think using these times as a guideline can help you social media "smarter" :)
ReplyDeleteInterested to hear your results, Launna!
I forgot to do it. But yesterday I posted a picture on instagram at 1 pm and I didn't receive likes, when I do it. Between 4 and 8 it's better
ReplyDeleteYou figured out quite well a schedule of social networking. I need to try it out. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post, though I noticed there was nothing about the different time zones (unless I completely missed it haha) because I would love to utilise these tips! Looking forward to this new column for your blog. Will definitely be checking back!
ReplyDeleteTHE FASHANN MONSTER
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Wow. I literally have been thinking about this every day since you told me about this article!!!!! Thank you SOO much!!!!
ReplyDeletexoxooxoxox
ReplyDeletehahaha your enthusiasm made my day! So happy to have been able to help, Naomi! Do let me know if it works for you! :)
Ah yeah this is a good point--I purposely didn't put time zones here because when doing research many sites mentioned this is all just based in your own time zone because that it when your readers are going to be waking up, commuting to work, etc. But if you live in the USA take all these times in EST :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Glad you found the post helpful and that we can bond over social media psychology hahah. ;) Welcome to the blog, Kirsten! xx
ReplyDeletethank you so much for this post, so useful! i just came across your blog randomly and its a complete godsend, definitely will be checking it out regularly :')

Haffy--thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoy this post! Welcome to the blog, and I hope you enjoy your stay! ;) Let me know if you're struggling with anything blog-related and I'd love to put a post together for you!
ReplyDeleteGreat Info, I get confused however, as most of my readers are from the US (and I live in Europe) so not sure whether I should schedule social media according to my timezone or the US

Hey Cheryl! Glad you found my blogging tips section and have been finding them useful! I appreciate all of the comments! ;)
ReplyDeleteI would actually suggest aligning your posts according to US time, if that is where most of your readers are from (and are part of your target audience). If you'd rather grow your local audience, you might want to try your local time zone.
I also recommend trying out a few different posting schedule to see where the sweet spot is for you, if you want to figure out a way to appease both! Best of luck and if you run into any troubles feel free to reach out! xx
I like to use Buffer to schedule my posts. It's very easy to use, and the free version is more than enough.
