Announcing our 2nd JooJoo Azad internship for Fall 2016!

We're also excited to announce that, while strong preference will be given to Chicago-based applicants, we are opening the application for this position to be completed remotely! The JooJoo Azad internship is designed to give young Muslim women the skills, insight, and connections they need to excel in areas of entrepreneurship, journalism, and media. We cannot rely on our oppressors to tell our stories. We must do that ourselves.

All USA-based activist-minded Muslim women who are eligible to work in the USA are encouraged to apply to work with us!

Application deadline is September 5th, 2016 and interviews will take place the following week. The position will begin late September and interns are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours a week for 12 weeks, and after completion of the internship will receive a minimum of $1,000 stipend (with the possibility of earning up to $1,500 over the course of 12 weeks).

To apply, please send resume, cover letter, social media accounts, and portfolio of relevant work to hoda@joojooazad.com with the subject line FALL 16 INTERN APPLICATION by September 5th to be considered.

Our first internship was offered summer '16 and she is now going on to create her own blog and is launching an all-natural soap company!

JooJoo Azad (meaning “Free Bird” in Farsi), is an activist fashion blog with three missions:
  1. To challenge mainstream Western Orientalist misrepresentation projects and Islamophobia. JooJoo Azad acts as a site of identity reclamation through writing, photography, and fashion.
  2. To transform fashion from a highly capitalistic, consumer-based industry into an intelligent power for social change and artistic expression.
  3. To celebrate and encourage the beauty of diversity--in terms of race, body size, gender plurality, religious affiliation, ethnicity, etc--in the fashion industry and beyond.
  4. To forge and build intersectionality among issues (feminism, Black Lives Matter, Palestinian liberation, etc) and mediums (fashion, writing, photography, etc).

In order to successfully promote these missions and goals, we are working on the following projects:
  • Running the JooJoo Azad blog, which receives 30k average pageviews monthly from tens of thousands of international readers, publishes bi-monthly blog posts and daily social media posts on topics ranging from ethical fashion and minimal wardrobe projects to Q&As on Islam and Iran to personal fashion shoots in collaboration with ethical brands. • Publishing RADICAL, a triennial in-print magazine featuring Chicago-based activists through interviews and fashion editorials.
